The Mission:

Poor Richard's Penny are a duet who play Early American music with authentic instruments in period dress and in historic settings. When they first came to me with a site redesign project, the existing site had a black background and many grey scale images. Both the clients and I felt that a warmer look and feel would fit better with Poor Richard's Penny's musical style. The client liked the idea of a maroon background, so we agreed to go for a "tavern" feel. With that in mind, I borrowed from the rich wood tones of the fiddle, and the brass and black of the penny whistle, PRPs primary instruments. I also liked alluding to the "penny" theme, and created a brass effect in Photoshop for the header text and logo, and main navigation bar. I warmed up some of the existing greyscale images from the prior site with a sepia tone overlay.

I reorganized the navigation and page layout to be more user friendly, improved the search engine optimization features, and added a photo gallery.

  • Redesign site navigation and layout to improve user experience
